Art Lessons for First Grade:
Springtime Flower Painting
Media: Washable Paint, Paper, Toilet Paper Tube
I can use a variety of media to explore printmaking/stamping to make a piece of art. VA1CR.3a, VA1.CR3b
I can use found objects to make a piece of art. VA1.CR.4C
Bend the middle of the toilet paper tube (lengthwise) making a heart shape. Dip the end of the heart into paint. Stamp the paper making a heart shape. Use one end for one color and the other end for a different color. Add stems or strings to make balloons or flowers. Make a pattern alternating colors. Keep stamping until the entire space is filled.

Now we will begin your drawing follow along with the youtubekids video in drawing a vase of sunflowers. Remember to make a line showing where the vase of flowers sits. Draw big beautiful sunflowers filling the vase. You can draw along with the video or draw your own with your imagination. Use whatever art supplies you have at home to color or paint it in! Or leave it black and white.
Primary and Secondary Colors:
First view the video over the primary and secondary colors.
Media: 3 clear plastic cups, water, food coloring, stirring tool, baby oil

This lesson combines science and art! You will need 3 clear plastic cups and the food coloring red, yellow, and blue. This is a fun demonstration of how you can take red, yellow, and blue and make orange, green and purple. The first step is to pour a little bit of water halfway up the cup. Then in each cup drop a few drops in. One cup red, one cup blue, one cup yellow. Lastly, add the baby oil to the cup. The baby oil will keep things from mixing. Then add a different color to each cup. You can stir to see what new colors it makes!
